Spider-Man: Brand New Day Delivers Record-Breaking Box Office Debut

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has made an unforgettable entrance at the box office. The latest Marvel and Sony blockbuster earned an estimated $72 million from Thursday preview screenings in North America, setting a new record for the biggest preview haul in domestic box office history. In doing so, it surpassed the previous record of $60 million, which had been held by Avengers: Endgame since 2019.

The milestone is a major achievement for both the Spider-Man franchise and Marvel Studios. It also highlights the continued popularity of Spider-Man, one of the world’s most recognizable and successful superhero characters. According to industry reports, the film’s preview earnings exceeded expectations and immediately positioned it among the biggest theatrical launches ever recorded.

The record is particularly significant because Avengers: Endgame was widely regarded as one of the most anticipated films of all time. Its Thursday preview earnings stood unmatched for more than seven years, making Brand New Day‘s achievement an impressive moment in box office history.

The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, marking his fourth standalone Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The story continues after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where Peter Parker made a life-changing sacrifice that erased his identity from everyone’s memory. Brand New Day follows the next chapter of his journey as he navigates life under those new circumstances.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film features a cast that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando. It is produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures, while Sony Pictures handles its worldwide distribution. The movie is also part of Marvel Studios’ Phase Six lineup.

The strong preview performance has led to equally impressive opening weekend projections. Industry analysts expect the film to comfortably surpass $200 million at the North American box office during its first weekend, with some forecasts placing the opening between $250 million and $300 million if momentum continues through Sunday.

The excitement isn’t limited to North America. Internationally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also expected to deliver a huge debut, with current projections estimating a worldwide opening of around $425 million. Strong advance ticket sales across multiple international markets have contributed to those early forecasts, reinforcing Spider-Man’s status as one of Hollywood’s strongest global franchises.

The film’s performance comes at an important time for the superhero genre. While several recent comic book films have experienced mixed box office results, Brand New Day has shown that audience interest in Spider-Man remains exceptionally strong. The early numbers suggest that moviegoers continue to view Spider-Man as one of the biggest draws in cinemas.

Spider-Man has consistently been one of the highest-grossing characters in film history. Across multiple franchises, Spider-Man movies have collectively earned more than $9 billion worldwide. Tom Holland’s previous Spider-Man films have played a major role in that success, particularly Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became one of the highest-grossing films ever after its release in 2021.

Although the film’s complete opening weekend results will be confirmed after Sunday, one thing is already certain: Spider-Man: Brand New Day has secured its place in box office history. By earning an estimated $72 million in Thursday previews and surpassing Avengers: Endgame‘s long-standing record, the film has delivered one of the strongest theatrical debuts ever seen and set a new benchmark for blockbuster openings in North America.
