Oracle Layoffs 2026: Tech Giant Cuts Up to 30,000 Jobs to Fund AI Expansion

On March 31, 2026, thousands of Oracle employees across the United States, India, Canada, Mexico, and Uruguay were notified of their termination via email from “Oracle Leadership.” The message informed them their roles had been eliminated as part of a broader organizational change and that the day of the email was their final working day. System access was revoked shortly after.

Investment bank TD Cowen estimates the cuts will affect between 20,000 and 30,000 employees, roughly 18% of Oracle’s global workforce of approximately 162,000 people. Oracle has not officially confirmed the total number of affected employees.

In a shocking development, Tech Major #Oracle has literally shunted 30K employees, over a morning mail , including 12,000 from #India .

Oracle Layoffs and AI Data Center Investment Plans

The workforce reduction is tied to Oracle’s aggressive push into AI infrastructure. The company projected $50 billion in capital spending for 2026, up from earlier guidance of $35 billion, as it expands data center capacity to support cloud partnerships with clients including OpenAI, Meta, and Nvidia.

Oracle disclosed a $2.1 billion restructuring plan in its March 2026 SEC filing, with $982 million already recorded in the first nine months of fiscal 2026. TD Cowen analysts estimate the job cuts could free up $8 to $10 billion in incremental cash flow, which the company is expected to direct toward its data center and cloud infrastructure buildout.

Despite the scale of the cuts, Oracle’s financials remain strong. The company posted a 95% jump in net income last quarter, reaching $6.13 billion. Its remaining performance obligations, a measure of contracted future revenue, stood at $523 billion, up 433% year over year. The layoffs reflect a strategic capital reallocation rather than financial distress.

🚨 Oracle just announced 30,000 layoffs. The biggest single tech layoff in the last 12 months
To put that in context:

▫️ Oracle: 30,000 (today)
▫️ Intel: 25,000 (Apr 2025)
▫️ Amazon: 16,000 (Jan 2026)
▫️ Microsoft: 9,000 (Jul 2025)
▫️ Block: 4,000 (Feb 2026)

That's 80,000+ jobs… pic.twitter.com/zV2I4ElE53

Oracle Job Cuts Follow Broader 2026 Tech Layoff Trend

Oracle is not alone in reducing headcount as AI investment rises. Several major tech companies have announced significant workforce reductions in 2026 alongside increased spending on AI infrastructure. Amazon eliminated around 16,000 corporate roles earlier in the year while projecting $200 billion in AI-related capital expenditure. Meta also laid off staff while forecasting up to $135 billion in capital spending for the year.

Oracle co-CEO Mike Sicilia noted earlier this year that AI coding tools are enabling engineering teams to deliver more with fewer people, a shift that has influenced how the company is restructuring its workforce.

The job cuts will affect somewhere around 20,000 and 30,000 – which is about roughly 18% of their global workforce.

Employees took to professional forums including Reddit’s r/employeesOfOracle and Blind to share their experiences following the notifications. Some reported that entire teams within units including Revenue and Health Sciences and SaaS and Virtual Operations Services were affected. Workers in Canada, Mexico, and Uruguay were notified before the US wave began.

Oracle’s stock rose nearly 6% on the day the layoffs were announced. Barclays analysts maintained an overweight rating on the stock, citing the cost savings potential. Oracle shares are still down approximately 25% year to date, reflecting broader investor concern over the company’s debt levels and the pace of returns on its AI infrastructure spending.

Oracle has not issued a public statement on the layoffs.
