From New York to the Gulf to South Asia, leaders and public figures marked the birth of Prophet Muhammad with messages of mercy, unity, and service.
Muslims across the world came together on August 25 to mark Eid Milad un Nabi, one of the most cherished occasions in the Islamic calendar. Observed on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal, the day commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose life and teachings have guided more than a billion people for over fourteen centuries. For the faithful, it is a moment to reflect on his example of compassion, humility, and devotion, and to renew their commitment to living by the values he embodied.
The occasion holds deep significance for the Muslim ummah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) is remembered in the Quran as a mercy to all the worlds, and his life remains an enduring source of guidance on justice, kindness, forgiveness, and service to others. Across the globe, the day is traditionally observed with prayers, gatherings, the recitation of poetry in his praise, and acts of charity toward the poor and vulnerable, a reflection of the generosity that defined his own life.
This year, celebrations spanned continents. In Sana’a, Yemen, and Mogadishu, Somalia, thousands joined some of the region’s largest processions, with organizers in Somalia distributing camels to families in need. Alongside the public gatherings, a stream of heartfelt messages from world leaders and prominent personalities filled social media, each returning to the themes at the heart of the Prophet’s legacy.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, extended his congratulations to the Islamic nation, describing the Prophet (peace be upon him) as the Messenger of humanity, the best of mankind, and a mercy from God to the worlds. On the blessed day, he offered a prayer that it return to the Muslim ummah amid goodness, security, safety, and stability.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, reflected on the enduring values at the heart of the Prophet’s legacy. Marking the anniversary of his birth, he recalled the principles of mercy, goodwill, and unity that continue to inspire, closing with a prayer for God to grant stability and peace to all the peoples of the world.
New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani sent greetings to Muslims in the city and around the globe, honoring the life and lasting legacy of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He noted that teachings of compassion, generosity, justice, faith, and service have inspired communities for more than 1,400 years, adding that the Prophet’s example is a reminder that caring for one another, embracing diversity, and serving the community make society stronger.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his greetings on Milad-un-Nabi, expressing hope that the occasion would further a sense of togetherness and joy. He prayed that the spirit of kindness and giving back to society would continue to guide everyone.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his felicitations to the people of Pakistan and the wider Muslim ummah, describing the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) as an eternal source of guidance that calls humanity toward compassion, justice, tolerance, and unity. He urged people to illuminate their character with the light of the Prophet’s example and to work together for a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message marking the occasion, called the Prophet’s birth the dawn of an enlightened era for humanity, one that lifted people from ignorance toward knowledge, justice, and equality. He described the Prophet (peace be upon him) as a mercy to all the worlds who safeguarded the rights of the weak, the orphaned, and the poor, and called on the younger generation to draw guidance from his noble character by making knowledge, morality, and service to humanity the purpose of their lives.
