Excerpt: Dubai’s RTA has launched the world’s first fully integrated AI-powered smart bus station at Mall of the Emirates.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority launched the city’s first smart bus station at Mall of the Emirates on May 10, describing it as a world first in fully integrated AI-powered public transport infrastructure. The facility brings together artificial intelligence, real-time data systems, and sustainable design under one roof, with the goal of making daily commutes faster, safer, and more seamless for residents and visitors alike.

The station connects directly to Mall of the Emirates Metro Station and serves 11 bus routes, including six Dubai Metro feeder routes, three internal routes, and two seasonal routes. Key areas covered include Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim, Jumeirah Village Circle, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Science Park, Dubai Studio City, and major tourist destinations such as Dubai Miracle Garden and Global Village.

AI Cameras, Real-Time Data and 24/7 Digital Services

The station’s most notable feature is its AI-powered surveillance and crowd monitoring system. Cameras track occupancy levels, monitor commuter movement, and detect violations in real time. Screens inside the station display how crowded incoming buses are before they arrive, allowing passengers to make informed decisions during peak hours.

All customer services have been converted to digital and proactive platforms operating around the clock. Real-time displays provide live updates on bus schedules, Dubai Metro arrivals, and taxi availability. The system is integrated with the Dubai Metro network, allowing commuters to plan transfers and cut waiting times. The screens also highlight nearby landmarks and navigation information, making the station useful for tourists unfamiliar with the city.

Covering 147 square metres, the station can accommodate up to 20 passengers at a time and includes a dedicated rest area for bus drivers.

Solar Power and Sustainable Design

The station runs on solar panels and is fitted with smart air-quality sensors that continuously monitor environmental conditions. RTA said the design aligns with its corporate identity and future mobility vision, balancing functionality with user comfort.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the launch marks a major step forward. “We are committed to enhancing customer service by deploying the latest digital technologies and smart solutions to deliver the highest levels of comfort and efficiency to users, while strengthening the appeal of the public transport network,” he said.

Al Tayer added that the project supports Dubai leadership’s vision of positioning the emirate among the world’s best cities to live, work, and visit.

RTA said it plans to expand the smart station concept across Dubai in the coming years as part of its broader strategy to strengthen public transport integration and improve the overall commuter experience.
