Two Men Rescue Driver From Sinking Car in Sharjah

Two residents in Sharjah are being praised after they risked their lives to pull a driver to safety moments before his vehicle sank completely into the sea. The incident took place on Friday night at Al Mamzar beach, where the driver’s car lost control due to a sudden brake failure, skidded off the road, and plunged into the water.

The driver found himself trapped with no way out. The impact had jammed the car doors shut, and as water rushed in rapidly, he was unable to break the windows to escape. Before emergency responders could reach the scene, the two residents noticed the driver struggling inside the sinking vehicle and jumped in without hesitation. They managed to pull him to safety just in time. Reportedly, the car sank completely into the sea moments later.

Sharjah Police issued a formal statement on Tuesday acknowledging the two men for their actions. Brigadier Ibrahim Al Ajel, Director General of the General Department of Comprehensive Police Stations, said the police operations room received an emergency report about the vehicle and immediately dispatched specialized teams to the site. By the time officers arrived, the driver had already been rescued.

Brigadier Al Ajel described the incident as a situation that could easily have turned fatal, adding that the two men deserve to be honored. He called their response a remarkable example of bravery, compassion, and community responsibility. “They deserve to be honored,” he said, noting that both rescuers acted purely out of humanitarian concern and without hesitation despite the danger involved.

The two men, both UAE residents, responded to the recognition with gratitude, saying they acted out of a natural instinct to help someone whose life was at risk. They described their decision as a moral and humanitarian duty.

Sharjah Police said the recognition is part of a broader effort by the force’s General Leadership to promote a culture of community responsibility and to honor individuals whose actions contribute to saving lives and supporting public safety.

Officials noted that the swift intervention reflects values that run deep within UAE societysolidarity, compassion, and a willingness to step up in moments of crisis. The force reiterated its commitment to recognizing community members who go above and beyond to protect others.

Incidents of public bravery in the UAE have drawn increasing attention in recent years, with authorities regularly honoring residents who assist in emergencies. From beach rescues to roadside interventions, such acts are consistently acknowledged by local police and civil defense bodies as essential contributions to public safety across the emirates.

The Al Mamzar area, which sits on the border of Sharjah and Dubai, is a popular spot for residents and families and has seen several water-related emergencies over the years. Authorities have repeatedly called on the public to remain vigilant near open water and to take immediate action when lives are at risk.
