West Indies beat Pakistan by 90 runs in the first Test at Tarouba in Trinidad on July 28, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Set 211 to win, Pakistan were dismissed for 120 in just over 40 overs on the fourth day. Jayden Seales took five wickets. The result guarantees West Indies at least a share of the series.
It is Pakistan’s eighth consecutive Test defeat away from home, extending their own record. Pakistan lost three wickets before lunch. Babar Azam held one end until he ran out of partners.
Justin Greaves took seven wickets in seven overs across the match. He bowled Mohammad Rizwan with his first legitimate delivery of the second-innings spell, seaming the ball away from the outside edge to hit off stump, then trapped Aamer Jamal leg before. Jamal, promoted to number six, had required a concussion test earlier after being struck on the helmet.
Fast bowlers took 40 wickets in the match, the first Test staged at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
West Indies made 311 in the first innings, with Kavem Hodge top scoring on 83 and Shai Hope making 39. Pakistan replied with 282. Shan Masood finished 12 short of a century in his first Test since being removed as captain, and sustained a finger injury while batting that kept him out of his usual position in the second innings. Mohammad Ali took a career-best haul, and Mohammad Abbas picked up two wickets.
West Indies were bowled out for 181 second time round, an eighth-wicket partnership between Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach adding the runs that put the target beyond Pakistan’s reach.
Pakistan Squad Changes Before Second Test
Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel have been added to the squad for the rest of the tour. Shafique has not played a Test since October 2025. Shakeel’s return comes earlier than originally scheduled.
Ubaid Shah, who bowls in excess of 140 kilometres per hour, is available for a debut. Ali Usman and Aamer Jamal bowled 13 overs between them across the match, all in the first innings. Wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghori is also in contention.
The second and final Test begins on August 2 at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. Pakistan must win to draw the series.
