Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man film crossed $2 billion worldwide in just three weeks.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is rewriting the box office record books. Sony and Marvel’s latest web-slinger adventure, starring Tom Holland, crossed $2.022 billion worldwide after only three weekends in theaters. According to Variety, that makes it the second-fastest film ever to reach the milestone, behind only 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and just the eighth movie in history to get there.
The film opened on July 31, 2026, and hit the ground running. It pulled in a record-breaking $360 million in North America on its opening weekend, the biggest domestic debut of all time, and $932 million globally in its first three days. It cleared $1 billion in six days, then kept climbing at a pace few films have ever matched.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the world having forgotten that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Holland’s hero starts the film alone and faces a mysterious new threat. Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal also star.
Spider-Man Domestic Box Office Passes Avatar
The film’s North American run has been just as historic. Brand New Day reached $785.8 million domestically in its first 17 days, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That total moved it past 2009’s Avatar, which finished at $785.2 million, to sit at No. 4 on the all-time domestic chart. Next in its sights is Spider-Man: No Way Home at $814.8 million, Holland’s previous outing as the character.
Along the way it became the fastest film ever to cross $700 million at the domestic box office, one of only a handful of movies to reach that mark at all. It took the third weekend crown too, holding the top spot for a third straight frame with an estimated $70 million, the second-best third weekend in box office history behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The film held strong even against fresh competition. New releases The End of Oak Street and PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie opened the same weekend but could not dislodge Spider-Man from No. 1.
Spider-Man Global Box Office Tops Sony’s Records
Overseas, the numbers are equally striking. Brand New Day has earned $1.236 billion internationally, per box office tracking, pushing its worldwide total past No Way Home to become Sony’s biggest film ever. No Way Home had finished at $1.9 billion after its December 2021 release, a figure once thought hard to beat.
Sony motion picture group chair Tom Rothman credited the film’s broad appeal, describing it as a story about friendship and connection that resonated with audiences of every age around the world.
With most of the summer’s competition already behind it, Brand New Day has room to keep climbing. Some box office watchers have floated the possibility that it could become the first film to reach $1 billion at the domestic box office, a mark no movie has ever hit. Whether or not it gets there, its place near the very top of the all-time charts is already secure.
