The White House has launched a 24-hour digital video stream called “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station”, days after President Donald Trump barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House access and major US television networks suspended their shared coverage of presidential events.
The new service went live on September 21, 2026, through the White House website and its YouTube presence. The White House describes the channel as a source for “top videos, major remarks, and must-see highlights” from the administration. The White House website lists Trump TV alongside its regular live news feed.
The launch followed a dispute between the Trump administration and several major news organisations over access to the White House. On September 18, Trump announced that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from the White House. Trump said the decision was connected to what he described as inaccurate reporting by the outlets. The three organisations were subsequently denied access to the White House grounds and their press credentials were revoked.
On September 21, CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in federal court in Washington, DC. The organisations argued that the restrictions violated their First Amendment rights and their rights to due process under the Fifth Amendment. They asked the court to temporarily block the administration from enforcing the ban and to restore their access credentials.
The dispute also affected the television press pool, a system in which major networks rotate responsibility for recording presidential events and distributing video footage to other broadcasters. ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC News participate in the television pool.
The television pool announced on September 21 that it would suspend its coverage of events designated as presidential pool assignments. The decision followed the White House’s removal of CNN from a scheduled pool assignment covering Trump’s trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly. The pool said there would be no replacement network for CNN’s assignment.
The networks said the public has an interest in receiving independent information about the government and objected to the exclusion of a news organisation because of its reporting. The suspension meant that some presidential events did not receive the usual live television coverage provided through the pool.

The new Trump TV stream initially featured previously recorded material rather than functioning as a conventional television news network. Among the footage shown when the service launched was a July 3 speech by Trump at Mount Rushmore. The White House has presented the service as a direct way for audiences to access administration video and presidential remarks.
The launch therefore represents a new official White House distribution channel at a time when access between the administration and several major news organisations is being contested in court. The television press pool suspension and the creation of Trump TV have changed how some presidential events are being recorded and distributed, while the legal dispute over media access remains ongoing.
