Bradley Cooper, Monica Barbaro and Margot Robbie were photographed on the streets of Paris this week filming the long-awaited Ocean’s Eleven prequel.
The streets of Paris turned into a 1960s film set this week as cameras rolled on the untitled Ocean’s Eleven prequel. Bradley Cooper, Monica Barbaro and Margot Robbie were spotted in period costume on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving fans their first proper look at the movie that expands one of Hollywood’s most beloved heist franchises.
Cooper is doing triple duty on this one. He writes, directs, and stars, following the same path he took with A Star Is Born and Maestro. Robbie stars opposite him and produces through her company LuckyChap Entertainment. The pair play the parents of Danny Ocean, the character George Clooney made famous across the 2001 trilogy.
Warner Bros. has been trying to grow the Ocean’s world for years, and this prequel is the studio’s next big swing. Production kicked off in the French capital before it moves on to other locations across Europe.
Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Cast and 1960s Monaco Heist Plot
The film is set in 1962 and follows Danny Ocean’s parents as they pull off an elaborate heist at the Monaco Grand Prix. Robbie is understood to play Danny’s mother, one of two masterminds behind the job, with Cooper as his father. Speaking at CinemaCon earlier this year, Robbie teased the premise. She said audiences would meet the two people who taught Danny everything he knows, and would see them in their prime pulling off a spectacular robbery.
The supporting cast is stacked. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble includes Vicky Krieps, George MacKay, Jack Holden, Lauren Ridloff, Omar Sy, Josh Gad, and Wagner Moura, with Moura reportedly playing the villain. Monica Barbaro, an Oscar nominee for A Complete Unknown, was also photographed on set in Paris this week wearing sharply tailored 1960s looks.
Robbie’s on-set wardrobe has already drawn attention. On Wednesday she wore a cream shift dress with a wide-brimmed black hat and pointy-toe pumps, a look widely compared to Audrey Hepburn’s screen elegance. The costuming leans into the sleek black-and-white palettes and clean silhouettes of early 1960s European glamour.
Bradley Cooper Directing Role and Ocean’s Eleven Release Date
The project has moved through several hands before landing with Cooper. Margot Robbie has been attached since 2022, when the prequel was first announced with Jay Roach set to direct. Ryan Gosling was once lined up to star opposite her but dropped out. Lee Isaac Chung, who directed Twisters, was attached at one point and later exited over creative differences. Cooper stepped in to write, direct, and star, which kept the film on track to begin shooting this year.
The prequel arrives in theaters on June 25, 2027, released by Warner Bros. Pictures. After the Paris shoot wraps, production is expected to move to Nice and Monaco in the coming months, matching the story’s Riviera setting.
The wider Ocean’s universe is busy again. Alongside the prequel, a fourth installment with much of the original cast is in the works. Clooney has said that Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle aim to reunite, with filming targeted to begin later this year. Clooney told Variety that the appeal was the idea of a crew that has lost a step but is still clever enough to work around its limits.
The Ocean’s films have a long history behind them. Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven was itself a remake of a 1960 film starring Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Soderbergh’s version became a critical and commercial hit and led to Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007. The female-led spinoff Ocean’s Eight followed in 2018 with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna.
This prequel takes a different route from the sequels and spinoff. Rather than reviving the familiar faces, it reaches back in time to show where the Ocean family story began, introducing a whole new generation of con artists and schemers. For a franchise built on style, misdirection, and glamorous locations, a 1960s European setting feels like natural territory.
Filming in Paris marks a strong start for a movie that spent years in development. With Cooper steering the project and Robbie leading alongside him, the prequel now has real momentum heading toward its 2027 release.
