Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the Artificial Intelligence-based Prime Minister Office System, known as PMOS, at a ceremony in Islamabad.

The platform is designed to record, communicate, monitor and track every directive issued by the prime minister, from the point of issuance through implementation, verified completion and post-completion monitoring.

Addressing the launch on Tuesday, Shehbaz Sharif directed all relevant authorities to ensure immediate and full implementation of the system, stating that traditional paper-based working would be replaced by digital processes.

“From today onwards, I will not expect any of you with a file in your hands. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism,” he said.

He urged all ministries and government departments to adopt the platform, saying it would significantly improve the government’s ability to deliver results and make service delivery easier.

The prime minister credited Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and the Secretary IT for developing and operationalising the system. The ceremony was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Khawaja and other senior officials.

What the PMOS Digital Governance Platform Does

Officials briefing the prime minister said PMOS is the first government platform in Pakistan to integrate artificial intelligence as a central component of decision-making and implementation monitoring.

According to the briefing, the system was developed at the centre of government to ensure efficient communication of the prime minister’s directives across the government machinery, while enabling timely implementation against defined quality standards.

At the core of the platform is a digital repository that records every directive issued by the prime minister alongside the complete chain of implementation. The Prime Minister’s Office described this as making PMOS both an institutional knowledge base and a permanent record of government decision-making.

The system also functions as a decision-support platform, combining analytics with structured information inside a protected IT environment. Officials said it would support continuous policy calibration by allowing the government to allocate technological, human and financial resources more effectively.

Unlike conventional government tracking systems, the briefing said, PMOS incorporates an artificial intelligence layer built into the monitoring process rather than added to it.

The government has introduced the platform at the Prime Minister’s Office first, with the stated intention of embedding governance reforms at the highest level before extending them across the wider administrative structure.

Ministries and departments have been instructed to move official business onto the platform. The prime minister said the era of relying on traditional paper files should come to an end and that all ministries must transition to the digital workflow.

The Prime Minister’s Office described PMOS as a trailblazer for the digital transformation of the federal government.

The launch was announced by the Prime Minister’s Office on X on July 21. It was covered by Dawn, The Express Tribune, Geo News and Radio Pakistan, among other outlets.

Pakistan’s Federal Digitisation Push

PMOS sits within a broader digitisation programme run through the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.

Pakistan approved a National Artificial Intelligence Policy in 2025, setting out a framework for AI adoption across public and private sectors, including provisions for government use, skills development and regulatory oversight. Federal digitisation efforts have also included the Pakistan Digital Authority and work on e-governance systems across ministries.

The government has not published a technical specification for PMOS, and details on the underlying architecture, data handling and access controls were not released at the launch. No timeline was given for extending the platform beyond the Prime Minister’s Office.

The system is operational at the Prime Minister’s Office as of July 21, 2026.
