Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau made their red carpet debut as a couple in New York.
Katy Perry is no longer keeping her feelings about Justin Trudeau private. The pop star and the former Canadian prime minister made their red carpet debut as a couple on Monday, June 8, at the Tribeca Festival in New York City. The occasion was the premiere of Perry’s new concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris. During the evening, Perry described Trudeau as the love of her life.
The two posed together for the first time on a red carpet as a couple. Perry, 41, wore a white halter-neck gown with rose-like floral details and an updo. Trudeau, 54, kept things classic in a black suit and white shirt. Photographers captured the pair holding hands, with Trudeau staying close throughout.
Perry opened up during a question-and-answer session after the screening. She told the audience she is very in love and called Trudeau the love of her life, as reported by E! News. She said meeting him left her feeling anchored, and that the relationship has made her feel more grounded. She compared herself to a kite that flies high and occasionally needs an anchor, adding that she now feels she has one.
The diva also reflected on the period before they met, which she called one of the hardest stretches of her life. She said she kept going through it because of promises she had made to her fans, her daughter, and herself.
Trudeau spoke briefly on the carpet as well. Asked by Entertainment Tonight whether he had seen the concert film, he joked that he had watched the show three times but paid attention only to Perry, so he was looking forward to finally seeing the film itself.
Inside Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s relationship timeline
The red carpet appearance is the latest step in a romance that has unfolded over nearly a year. The two were first linked in July 2025, when they were spotted together in Montreal, including a dinner at the restaurant Le Violon. The sighting came after Perry’s split from former fiancé Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy.
The relationship became more visible over the following months. Photos later circulated of the two together off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. Perry then offered a soft hint at the romance backstage after a Paris performance in October 2025, when Trudeau appeared among the group celebrating her birthday.
Their first public appearance came soon after, on October 25, 2025, when they attended a cabaret show at the Crazy Horse Paris during Perry’s 41st birthday celebration, leaving the venue hand in hand. Perry made the relationship Instagram official in December 2025.
Since then, the couple has often been long-distance, given Perry’s touring schedule and Trudeau’s base in Canada. Reports describe the two as determined to make the relationship work, and Monday’s appearance suggested they are comfortable being seen together in public.
The concert film at the center of the premiere documents Perry’s Lifetimes Tour stop in Paris. Perry noted that the show captured in the film took place after she met Trudeau, which she said gave her steadier footing during that run.
Trudeau served as Canada’s prime minister from 2015 until early 2025. Perry, one of the best-selling pop artists of her generation, is known for hits including Firework, Roar, and Teenage Dream, and has been touring behind her Lifetimes album. The pair have kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight until now, favoring low-key outings over public events.
The Tribeca premiere changed that. After months of quiet sightings and social media hints, the appearance marked their clearest statement yet as a couple, and Perry’s remarks at the Q&A were the most detailed she has shared about the relationship to date.
