Arshad Nadeem Named in Lausanne Diamond League Entry List

Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist will compete in a strong javelin field in Switzerland on August 21.

Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has been named in the entry list for the men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League, scheduled for August 21. The entry list was released by the event organizers on Monday.

The lineup places Nadeem in one of the strongest javelin fields assembled in the Diamond League in recent years. He is set to face Indian rival Neeraj Chopra, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and Commonwealth Games gold medalist and world leader Rumesh Pathirage of Sri Lanka. The field also features Germany’s Thomas Röhler and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, both former Olympic javelin champions.

The depth of the Lausanne field marks it as a significant test for every entrant. Chopra, the reigning name most often measured against Nadeem, has been the athlete most closely associated with his career rivalry over recent seasons. Peters, a two-time world champion, brings a record of consistency at the highest level of the event. Pathirage arrives as the current world leader and the most recent Commonwealth Games champion in the discipline, making him one of the form throwers of the season.

Röhler and Walcott add further weight to the competition. Both have stood at the top of the sport at major championships, and their inclusion reinforces the strength of a field that organizers have highlighted as among the most competitive in the Diamond League’s recent history. For Nadeem, the meet represents a chance to measure himself against that level of opposition on a major international stage.

Nadeem’s Recent Form

Nadeem enters the competition following a disappointing outing at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he finished ninth in the 12-man final and failed to defend his title.

He opened his campaign at those Games with a foul on his first attempt. He recovered to register a throw of 77.41 metres on his second attempt, which placed him on the leaderboard but well short of medal contention. Needing to improve on his third attempt to stay in the running, Nadeem managed only 75.39 metres and remained in ninth place, which ended his involvement in the medal race.

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has been confirmed in the entry list for the men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League, where he will take on many of the sport’s biggest names on August 21.

That result stood in contrast to his performance at the previous edition of the Games, where he had claimed the gold medal with a throw of 90.18 metres. The gap between that winning mark and his Glasgow output underlines the challenge he faces in returning to his best form ahead of the Lausanne meet.
