Hum the first few seconds of Jhoom and Ali Zafar’s voice probably shows up in your head on its own. On Saturday night, around 45,000 people in Mississauga did not have to hum anything. He was right there in front of them.

The Pakistani superstar performed to a record-breaking crowd at Mississauga’s Celebration Square. The estimated 45,000 attendees packed the open-air venue and spilled into the streets around it. Event organizers called it the largest concert audience ever assembled at the Square.

The show marked the closing night of Zafar’s North American Roshni Tour 2026.

Organizers said the crowd stretched well past the Square itself. Parts of Duke of York Boulevard and the grounds of the neighboring Living Arts Centre were closed off to handle the overflow. People kept arriving through the evening. By showtime the space was full in every direction.

Roshni Tour 2026 Closes With Record Mississauga Crowd

The free concert pulled together one of the largest and most mixed gatherings of the South Asian diaspora in the Greater Toronto Area in recent memory. Children, young families, teenagers, working professionals, and elders all turned up. The audience drew from Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, and wider South Asian communities. Families, students, and community groups filled the Square and the surrounding streets. They danced from the opening note to the final encore.

Celebration Square sits in the heart of downtown Mississauga. The open layout let the crowd push out into the roads and plazas beyond the main stage, and that spillover is part of what made the night a record.

Ali Zafar Setlist Spans New Album and Classic Hits

Zafar played for close to two hours. He opened with the high-energy Rangeen and worked through a setlist of more than twenty songs.

Several tracks from his new album, Roshni, got their first-ever live performances. Those included the title song Roshni along with Mamacita and Ruxaana. From there the set moved through Zafar’s biggest hits. He played the iconic Channo, the dance favorite Masty, and the timeless Chal Dil Mere. He rounded the night out with a run of his best-known Bollywood and regional anthems.

One of the standout moments came during Jhoom. As Zafar sang, thousands of phone flashlights rose from the crowd and turned Celebration Square into a sea of light. He then stepped off the stage and walked into the audience, and the roar carried across the whole Square.

Speaking to the crowd, Zafar revealed that he wrote Jhoom after his wife, Ayesha, told him they were expecting. He said the song came out of gratitude and was his way of thanking the Creator.

Ali Zafar Speaks on Unity and Identity

Zafar did not stick to the music alone. He used the stage to talk directly to the crowd about unity, identity and respect. He described humanity as one, without distinction of race, religion, or background. He asked the South Asian community to take pride in its heritage and to stay connected to its roots no matter where life takes it.

He spoke about the freedom of women to choose how they live. He spoke about the right of children to chase their own ambitions. He spoke about the responsibility of parents to listen to their children as much as they guide them.

“We are one humanity,” Zafar told the crowd between songs. “Wherever we live in the world, we carry our roots with us, and we should be proud of them. Respect for each other’s choices is what holds us together.”

He tied those words back to the night itself. The freedom of women to live as they choose, the right of children to follow their dreams, and the love parents and children owe each other were not separate from the music, he said. They were the music.

The concert closed with long stretches of dancing and singing across the Square. The crowd sang every word back to him. Many attendees called the night historic.

Ali Zafar continues the second leg of his international tour through August and October. Organizers said more cities will be announced.
