Brad Pitt returns to his Oscar-winning role in a new film directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino.
Netflix has released the first full trailer for “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” bringing back one of recent cinema’s most memorable characters. Brad Pitt reprises his Oscar-winning role as Cliff Booth, the laid-back stuntman first introduced in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
The film is a follow-up to that 2019 hit, but with a notable twist behind the camera. This time it is directed by David Fincher, working from a new screenplay written by Tarantino. The pairing has generated real excitement among film fans, marking the first collaboration between two of Hollywood’s most distinctive filmmakers.
The story picks up in 1977, eight years after the events of the original. Booth has hung up his stunt work and now makes a living as a Hollywood fixer, the kind of man powerful people call when they have a problem that needs quietly solving. According to Variety, he also spends his time bartending and working as a projectionist, a reflection of how much the industry around him has changed.
What the Cliff Booth Trailer Reveals
The trailer promises a story packed with intrigue and dark humor. The official synopsis sets the tone plainly, listing murder, blackmail, theft, and extortion as just another summer in Hollywood. Los Angeles no longer needs the kind of stuntman Booth once was, but the town still has plenty of problems suited to his particular set of skills.
The plot kicks off when Booth gets a call from a talent agent, played by Elizabeth Debicki, on behalf of a television star known for doing his own stunts. That connection pulls Booth into a world of colorful characters, including the star’s knowing wife, a former football champion turned actor, and a pair of mysterious gangsters causing chaos across the city.
The preview also finds room for a playful nod to the first film. When asked why he stopped working as a stunt double for actor Rick Dalton, the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the original, Booth dryly explains that Dalton simply got too big to double. DiCaprio does not return for the sequel, and the line serves as a light wink to fans of the first movie.
A Star-Studded Cast and a Major Release Plan
Alongside Pitt and Debicki, the film features a deep ensemble cast. It includes Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Peter Weller, among others. Timothy Olyphant also returns from the original film, reprising his role as James Stacy.
The project has an interesting origin story. Tarantino originally wrote the script intending it to be his tenth and final film as a director. He later decided he did not want to close out his career revisiting familiar ground. With his blessing, Pitt passed the screenplay to Fincher, one of Tarantino’s favorite directors, and the film found its new shape from there.
The release plan is unusual as well. “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will open in IMAX theaters worldwide on November 25 for a two-week exclusive run, before streaming on Netflix from December 23. The theatrical window makes it the first Netflix film to receive a global IMAX release, a notable step for the streaming service.
The trailer marks the beginning of the promotional push ahead of that release. With Pitt back in a career-defining role, Fincher behind the camera, and Tarantino’s writing driving the story, the sequel arrives as one of the most closely watched film releases heading into the end of the year.
