After nearly a decade away from the spotlight, Bollywood actor Imran Khan has officially confirmed that he is returning to films. His comeback project, Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, will premiere on Netflix, marking his first acting role since 2015 and ending years of speculation about whether he would return to the screen.
Imran shared the news during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, revealing that filming has already wrapped and the movie is currently in post-production. He also confirmed that the romantic comedy is expected to release on Netflix later this year.
Describing the film, Imran said it is a “grown-up romantic comedy” that reflects the stage of life he is in today. He explained that the role feels “age-appropriate” and represents the kind of stories he now wants to tell after spending several years away from acting.
The film reunites Imran with director Danish Aslam, who previously worked with him on the 2010 film Break Ke Baad. Actress Bhumi Pednekar stars opposite Imran in the lead role. Although the filmmakers have not revealed the plot, they have confirmed that principal photography has been completed and the project is now in its final stages before release.
Imran Khan became one of Bollywood’s most popular young actors after making his lead debut in the 2008 hit Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. The coming-of-age romantic comedy introduced him to audiences and quickly established him as one of the industry’s promising stars. Over the following years, he appeared in several successful films, including I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Break Ke Baad.
His last theatrical release was Katti Batti in 2015. Following the film, Imran stepped away from acting and remained largely out of the public eye. During those years, he made only occasional public appearances and did not announce any new film projects.
Despite his absence, fans continued to express their admiration for the actor. Social media platforms frequently saw calls for his return, with many viewers remembering him for the light-hearted romantic comedies that defined much of his career. Over time, those online campaigns grew stronger, making his comeback one of the most talked-about possibilities in Bollywood.
By confirming Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, Imran has finally addressed the long-standing speculation himself. During his interview, he said he had completed filming his first movie in 10 years and confirmed that Netflix will release the film later this year.
While story details remain under wraps, Imran’s comments suggest that the film will offer a more mature take on romance than the youthful love stories audiences associate with his earlier work. Instead of revisiting the characters he once portrayed, the actor appears to be embracing roles that better reflect his own journey and life experiences.
The announcement also highlights the growing role of streaming platforms in Bollywood. In recent years, services such as Netflix have become an important destination for original Hindi films, allowing actors and filmmakers to reach audiences worldwide through digital releases.
For many moviegoers, Imran Khan’s return is more than just another film announcement. It marks the comeback of an actor whose performances left a lasting impression on a generation of audiences. After a 10-year hiatus, Adhure Hum Adhure Tum will bring him back to the screen in a new chapter of his career, this time with a story that he says reflects where he is today, both personally and professionally.
