Zayed International Airport Is Open to Visitors Without a Flight

Ever wanted to wander through Zayed International Airport without actually going anywhere? Now you can. Abu Dhabi’s flagship airport has opened its doors to UAE residents and citizens for eight weeks, letting you explore its terminals, shops, and dining spots without a ticket or a departing flight in sight.

It is a rare chance to get inside one of the region’s most impressive airport terminals purely for the experience. Whether you want to shop, grab a meal, or just see what all the fuss is about, the airport is officially yours to explore.

Just know that getting in is not as simple as walking through the door. There is a process, and it’s super easy!

Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport has launched an eight-week initiative allowing citizens and residents to visit its terminals and facilities without having to travel.

How to Get Into Zayed International Airport as a Visitor

First, you need to register in advance and obtain a digital security pass in PDF format. This pass comes with a QR code that gets scanned at checkpoints, shops, and exit points throughout your visit. When you leave, you have to return the security badge to a designated area. Skip that step, and you could lose eligibility for future visits.

Personal electronic devices like laptops and tablets are not allowed inside during your visit. Your phone situation was not specified in the announcement, so expect security staff to clarify that at entry.

Only UAE ID holders can participate. If you are bringing the kids, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. You cannot just show up either. Entry runs through a booking system, and appointments have to be made in advance. If plans change on the day, you need to contact the airport directly and get a new entry pass issued.

Parking is covered for up to four hours, as long as you spend a minimum of Dh200 inside and collect a validation voucher before you leave. Payments at exit points are cashless only, so bring your bank card.

What You Can and Cannot Do Inside

Once you are in, the experience is fairly straightforward. You can shop and dine at the airport’s retail and food outlets the same way any departing passenger would. Standard VAT applies to all purchases.

There are a couple of things off the table though. Tobacco and alcohol are not available under this initiative. Since access is being granted without a boarding pass, those categories are restricted for the duration of the programme.

The initiative runs for eight weeks from now, making it a limited window for residents who have been curious about the terminal since it opened. Zayed International Airport has been widely talked about for its scale and design, and this is the first time the general public gets a proper look inside without needing to fly somewhere.

If you have been putting off a trip to Abu Dhabi or just want something different to do on a weekend, this is a fairly unique option. Not many airports in the world open their doors like this. Book your slot, get your pass, and leave the laptop at home.
