Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed has made her debut at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, currently underway on the French Riviera. The Zindagi Gulzar Hai star is among the Pakistani names attending this year’s edition of the prestigious event, which is being held from 12 to 23 May 2026.
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most respected film events in the world, drawing filmmakers, actors, and industry figures from across the globe. Sanam Saeed’s appearance has drawn attention back home, with fans and entertainment outlets marking the moment on social media.
The 41-year-old actress, born in London and based in Karachi, is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most accomplished screen performers. Her presence at Cannes adds her name to a growing list of Pakistani actors who have walked the festival’s red carpet in recent years.
Sanam Saeed rose to fame with her lead role as Kashaf Murtaza in the 2013 series Zindagi Gulzar Hai, opposite Fawad Khan. The drama remains one of the most popular Pakistani television productions of the past decade and earned her the Lux Style Award for Best Television Actress.
Her television credits include Talkhiyan, Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Kadoorat, Diyar-e-Dil, and more recently Kafeel, which has been airing through 2026. On the film side, she has appeared in Bachaana, Dobara Phir Se, Mah-e-Mir, Cake, and Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning.
She also starred opposite Fawad Khan in the ZEE5 series Barzakh, directed by Asim Abbasi. The series was the only South Asian selection at the Series Mania festival in France, where it competed in the International Panorama section.
Pakistani Presence At Film Festival Grows
This year’s Cannes Film Festival is being chaired by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook as jury president. The festival opened with the French period comedy The Electric Kiss by Pierre Salvadori. Honorary Palme d’Or awards are being presented to filmmaker Peter Jackson and American actress and singer Barbra Streisand.
The 22 films selected for the main competition will compete for the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize. The event also includes parallel sections such as Un Certain Regard, Directors’ Fortnight, and Critics’ Week.
Cannes regularly draws a strong contingent of South Asian celebrities, with Indian and Pakistani actors using the platform to showcase fashion, promote films, and engage with international media. Sanam Saeed’s addition to the list of Pakistani names at the festival adds to the country’s gradually expanding footprint at major global film events.
Other Pakistani names at Cannes this year include Miss Universe Pakistan 2025 Roma Riaz, who will walk the red carpet and host the Xpedition Gala, and designer Hussain Rehar.
The Cannes Film Festival continues through 23 May, with red carpet appearances, premieres, and industry events scheduled across the duration of the event.
