Olivia Rodrigo brought Palestinian craftsmanship into the spotlight when she appeared in a custom dress featuring traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery during an event for her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival in Irvine, California.

The Grammy-winning singer wore a pale pink mini dress created by Palestinian fashion label Nöl Collective during a press presentation ahead of the festival. The handmade dress featured traditional tatreez embroidery, including designs of birds and interconnected daisy-chain motifs. Rodrigo paired the dress with vintage Gucci Mary Jane heels and a silver pendant necklace.

Nöl Collective was founded by Palestinian-American designer Yasmeen Mjalli and is based in Ramallah. The label incorporates traditional Palestinian craftsmanship into contemporary clothing and works with family-run sewing workshops, artisan studios and women’s cooperatives across Palestine. Its work includes techniques such as tatreez embroidery, handweaving and natural dyeing.

Tatreez is a traditional Palestinian form of embroidery that has been practiced for generations. It is commonly associated with Palestinian clothing and is known for intricate patterns created through hand stitching. Designs can include flowers, birds, trees and geometric shapes, with different motifs historically carrying cultural and regional associations. The embroidery has also become an important way of preserving Palestinian cultural heritage.

The embroidery on Rodrigo’s dress included birds and daisy-chain designs. The daisy-chain motif also connected visually with the name of Rodrigo’s festival, Daisy Chain Fields. Reports described the dress as handmade and created specifically for Rodrigo’s appearance.

Rodrigo’s decision to wear the Palestinian label comes after she has previously spoken publicly about the humanitarian situation involving Palestinians. In July 2025, she expressed concern about the suffering of civilians in Gaza and said that the situation was “horrific and completely unacceptable.” She also expressed support for humanitarian assistance for children affected by the conflict.

Earlier in 2026, Rodrigo participated in the War Child UK charity project Help(2), contributing a version of “The Book of Love.” The project focused on children affected by conflict in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine and Yemen, with footage in its accompanying video filmed by children in the affected regions. The dress was worn in connection with Daisy Chain Fields, a women-led music festival organized by Rodrigo. The inaugural festival was held at Great Park in Irvine on August 29, 2026, and featured performances from artists including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, The Breeders and Stevie Nicks.

The festival also had a charitable focus. Rodrigo announced that $10 million would be donated to 10 nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls. A further $10 million donation from philanthropist Melinda French Gates brought the total raised for the festival’s beneficiaries to $20 million. The organizations receiving support work across areas including women’s health, reproductive rights and other issues affecting women and girls.

Rodrigo’s Palestinian-designed dress therefore became one of the notable fashion moments surrounding the launch of Daisy Chain Fields. By choosing a handmade piece from Nöl Collective, she wore a contemporary design incorporating one of Palestine’s longstanding traditional embroidery practices while appearing at an event centered on women, music and charitable causes.
