New York’s mayor mentioned Taylor Swift’s wedding while talking about a busy summer, and it matched the rumored Fourth of July date.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani may have given away one of the summer’s best-kept secrets. At a press conference on Monday, he was talking about how busy the city will be over the July 4 weekend. While listing the big events coming up, he mentioned Taylor Swift’s wedding. Swift and her fiancé Travis Kelce have not confirmed any wedding plans. But the mayor’s words matched what fans and reporters have been saying for months.

Mamdani was speaking about the 2026 World Cup and how the city is getting ready for it. He said New York is the biggest city in the country and is used to handling big events. Then he listed what else is happening that same weekend. He mentioned the Knicks’ Finals run, July 4, the country’s 250th birthday, and “Taylor Swift’s wedding all happening at the same time.” He said the city was excited to welcome the world.

A reporter then asked if he had been invited and if he planned to go. Mamdani laughed and said no to both. He said he wished the couple a happy wedding. He also joked that he would just listen to one of Swift’s songs at home instead. A spokesperson for Swift did not reply to a request for comment, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Mamdani is 34 and a Democrat. He made the comments while talking about safety plans for the July 5 World Cup match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. That stadium is a short train ride from the city. He said he trusts the New York police to keep the holiday weekend safe for everyone.

Taylor Swift Wedding Date

For weeks, reports have pointed to Madison Square Garden as the wedding venue. TMZ Sports reported that Swift and Kelce plan to marry there around July 3. As many as 1,200 guests are expected to attend. Reports say the couple rented the arena for at least three days, at a cost of about $3 million.

The two have worked hard to keep the event private. TMZ reported that they sent invitations by text message instead of on paper. The arena also has no windows, so photographers outside cannot take pictures of the ceremony. Those steps suggest the couple wants to control every detail and keep the day out of the public eye.

Swift and Kelce got engaged in August 2025. They have been dating since 2023. Swift shared the news on Instagram, and it quickly became one of the biggest celebrity stories of the year. The pair are two of the most famous people in the United States. Swift is one of the best-selling musicians in the world, and Kelce is a star tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs. That mix of music and football has made their relationship a constant talking point.

Earlier reports had mentioned other plans, including a June wedding in Rhode Island. But the most recent reporting all points to a Fourth of July weekend wedding in New York. The change shows how closely guarded the real plans have been, and how much the details have shifted as the date got closer.

So far, the couple has not confirmed the date, the place, or any other details. That makes the mayor’s quick comment the closest thing to a confirmation yet. For a city already getting ready for the World Cup and a big Independence Day, the wedding now looks set to add one more huge event to an already packed summer.
