Prince Harry and Meghan are reported to be planning a UK visit with their children next month, their first as a family in four years.
Prince Harry and his family are set to return to the United Kingdom next month, according to British media reports. CNN reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to be accompanied by their two children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, in what would be their first trip to the UK as a family in four years. The reports were carried by the BBC, the Telegraph, and ITV News.
The couple has lived in California since 2020, when they stepped back from royal duties. Their departure was followed by a long-running and public rift with the royal family. The Sussexes have cited tabloid intrusion, what they described as racism in British institutions, online abuse, complex family dynamics, and a desire for financial independence as reasons for leaving, in interviews and in Harry’s memoir.
The children have not been to the UK in years. Reuters reported that the family’s last joint appearance in Britain came during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, while Meghan returned for the late Queen’s funeral in September of that year. Harry, 41, has since made several solo trips back, including for the funeral.
Harry and Meghan UK Visit Tied to Invictus Games Event
The reported trip is built around a specific event. The Times reported that the visit centers on a one-year countdown event for the Invictus Games, the sporting competition for wounded and sick service members that Harry founded. The event is set to take place in Birmingham, which will host the 2027 Games.
The couple has a long history with the competition. They have attended Invictus Games events in Toronto, Sydney, The Hague, and Dusseldorf since 2017, and both appeared at the first winter edition in Canada in 2025. Anchoring the UK trip around Invictus gives the visit a defined purpose tied to Harry’s charitable work.
A key condition still hangs over the plans. The Sun on Sunday reported that the visit depends on the reinstatement of the family’s right to armed police protection in the UK. Harry lost a court case in May 2025 over the removal of his taxpayer-funded security after he stepped down as a working royal. He described the defeat in strong terms and blamed the Royal Household for influencing the decision. He later filed a request for a full risk assessment, which was granted, and those close to him are hopeful the protection will be restored.
Harry and Meghan UK Visit Raises Questions on Royal Family Meeting
The trip carries wider significance for the royal family. It remains unclear whether King Charles will meet his grandchildren during the visit. The King has seen Harry in recent years, but has not seen Meghan, Archie, or Lilibet since 2022.
Harry has spoken about wanting his children to know his home country. In a BBC interview in May 2025, he said it had become impossible for the family to return under the circumstances at the time, and expressed sadness that he could not show his children his homeland. The reported visit suggests a shift from that position, should the security arrangements be settled.
Relations between Harry and his father have reportedly been improving at a slow pace. The Times reported that Harry is hopeful Archie and Lilibet can see their grandfather, framing the children’s visit as a potential next step in repairing ties. Harry is also understood to be planning multiple trips to the UK this year connected to his patronages and to Invictus.
