The billion-dollar car franchise is finally making the leap to the small screen, with a live-action series set to premiere in 2028.
After 25 years of street races, impossible stunts and endless talk of family, the Fast & Furious franchise is shifting into a new lane. Peacock has given the green light to the first live-action television series based on the blockbuster films, Deadline reported.
Vin Diesel, who has played Dominic Toretto in the franchise since the very first film in 2001, will serve as executive producer. The series, produced by Universal Television, is currently untitled and is set to premiere on Peacock in 2028.
The timing is no accident. That same year, the film series is scheduled to reach its finish line with Fast Forever, the 11th and final movie, which arrives in theaters on March 17, 2028.
For fans who have followed the crew across continents, through heists and even into space, the series offers a way for the story to keep going long after the last film rolls its credits.
Fast & Furious TV Series Creative Team and Producers
The show has its creative team in place. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will write the pilot episode and serve as co-showrunners.
Daniels has worked on Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue, recently served as an executive producer on Peacock’s PONIES, and is involved in NBC’s upcoming reboot of The Rockford Files. Coleman was an executive producer on 9-1-1 Lone Star and also worked on Shades of Blue.
Alongside Diesel, the series will be executive produced by Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz of Original Film, Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan, several of whom have helped steer the film franchise for years. Morgan wrote many of the franchise’s most successful films, giving the series a strong link to the movies that built its fan base.
No plot details or cast members have been announced yet, and it remains unclear which characters from the films, if any, will appear in the series.
Vin Diesel’s Plans to Expand the Fast & Furious Universe
The series was first teased in May at NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation in New York, where Diesel spoke about bringing the franchise to television.
“And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space,” he said at the event. Diesel added that fans had long wanted more from the franchise and had been asking to see the legacy characters and their stories explored further.
At the same presentation, Diesel said four shows set in the Fast & Furious universe were in the pipeline. Peacock later clarified that only one was in active development at the time, and that is the project that has now received a series order.
This will not be the franchise’s first time on the small screen. The animated series Fast & Furious Spy Racers ran from 2019 to 2021, following a group of teenagers recruited into a spy organization. The new Peacock project, however, will be the first live-action series in the franchise’s history.
The move comes as the films remain one of Hollywood’s biggest success stories. Over the past 25 years, the Fast & Furious movies have earned more than $7 billion at the global box office, making the franchise one of the most valuable properties in Universal’s library.
With the final film and the new series both set for 2028, that year is shaping up to be a major one for fans of Dom Toretto and his crew.
