The occasion carries the official theme “Our Pride Lies in Our Nature,” rendered in Arabic as عزّنا بطبعنا, which was unveiled by the General Entertainment Authority and carried forward from the previous year with a refreshed visual identity. The design combines modern lettering with patterns inspired by traditional Al Sadu weaving, and its imagery draws on symbols of Saudi culture, history, and landmarks meant to reflect values such as courage, authenticity, generosity, hospitality, and vision.

The history behind Saudi National Day

National Day is observed every year on September 23, and the date is fixed because of what it commemorates. On that day in 1932, a royal decree formally announced the unification of the country under the name the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It marked the culmination of a decades-long effort led by the Kingdom’s founder, the late King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, to bring the regions of the Arabian Peninsula together under a single flag and a single name.

The story behind the day stretches back to the start of the century. Born in Riyadh in 1876, King Abdulaziz spent part of his early life in Kuwait before returning to reclaim his family’s former seat of power. In 1902, at around 26 years old, he retook Riyadh with a small band of supporters in the historic storming of Al-Masmak Palace, an event that set in motion the long campaign of unification. Over the following three decades he consolidated the territories that would form the modern state, while overseeing the early development of government institutions, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

How Saudi National Day 2026 is celebrated

While September 23 is the official day, the celebrations typically build over the surrounding week, with decorations, convoys, and events running for several days around the date. Across Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and other cities, buildings are lit in green, public spaces are decorated, and residents mark the occasion with family gatherings, fireworks, concerts, and cultural displays. This year’s festivities are accompanied by a selection of official National Day songs released as part of the celebrations.

For citizens and residents alike, the day is more than an entry on the calendar. It offers a moment to reflect on the Kingdom’s journey from unification to the present, and on the sense of shared identity and belonging that runs across generations. National Day is an official public holiday in Saudi Arabia, though the exact arrangements can vary between sectors and are confirmed through official announcements each year.

Saudi National Day 2026 and Vision 2030

This year’s National Day arrives as Saudi Arabia continues its wide-ranging transformation under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Kingdom is advancing toward the goals of Vision 2030, its national plan to diversify the economy, strengthen local capabilities, and expand its role on the global stage.

That forward-looking spirit sits at the heart of the 2026 theme, which pairs pride in the Kingdom’s roots with confidence in its ambitions. As Saudi Arabia celebrates 96 years since its founding, the occasion honors both the legacy of the Kingdom’s founder and the nation’s continuing path, connecting a story that began in 1932 with the aspirations shaping the years ahead.
