UN agencies in Pakistan are hiring for roles in Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Sukkur, with several deadlines falling in late October.
United Nations agencies working in Pakistan have opened a fresh round of vacancies, with roles ranging from drivers and field officers to analysts, consultants and senior specialists.
More than 30 positions linked to Pakistan are currently open, according to UN Job Net, which tracks vacancies across the UN system. Most are based in Islamabad, with others in Peshawar, Quetta and Sukkur, as well as projects that cover several parts of the country.
The openings come from a range of agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNICEF, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Many of these roles are open to Pakistani nationals, and several close within the next two weeks.
Types of UN Jobs Available in Pakistan
UN positions in Pakistan fall into a few main categories, and the type of contract usually decides who can apply.
General Service (G) roles cover support and administrative work, such as drivers, assistants and programme associates. These are local positions, usually open only to people living in Pakistan. Current openings include a G-2 driver post with IOM in Sukkur and a G-6 senior monitoring assistant role in Quetta.
National Officer (NO) roles are professional positions reserved for Pakistani citizens. They are graded from NO-A to NO-D, or NO-1 to NO-4, depending on the agency. UNICEF is currently hiring a health specialist at the NO-3 level in Peshawar.
National Personnel Service Agreements (NPSA) are UNDP’s local project contracts. UNDP is hiring analysts in Islamabad at the NPSA-8 and NPSA-9 levels, in areas such as digital justice, outreach and events, and project finance.
Individual Consultant (IC) roles are short-term, project-based contracts for specialists. UNDP has posted several, covering subjects such as women in the justice sector, business and human rights, finance and compliance, and water supply design.
UN Volunteer roles let professionals work with UN agencies on assignments that come with a monthly living allowance. FAO and UNDP currently have national volunteer positions open in Pakistan.
How to Apply for UN Jobs From Pakistan
Each UN agency runs its own recruitment portal, so applications must be made directly on the agency’s official careers page.
Start by creating a profile on the relevant platform. The UN Secretariat uses careers.un.org, UNDP lists jobs at jobs.undp.org, UNICEF at jobs.unicef.org and IOM at iom.int/jobs. Volunteer roles are posted on app.unv.org.
Read the job description carefully before applying. UN roles list required education, years of experience and language skills, and applications that do not meet the minimum requirements are usually screened out early.
Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a written test, followed by a competency-based interview, often held online.
Applicants should also be careful about scams. The UN does not charge any fee at any stage of recruitment, and genuine job offers never ask candidates to pay for processing, training or visas.
