A leaked Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has spread online days before its official release.
Marvel fans were given an early look at Spider-Man this week, though not the one Sony had planned. A full trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day surfaced online over the weekend of June 7, ahead of its intended release. It circulated widely within hours, and the response from fans has been notably mixed. The film, Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man feature, opens in theaters on July 31, 2026.
The leaked clip ran a little over two minutes and 20 seconds. Sony responded quickly with copyright takedown notices, a move many took as confirmation that the footage was authentic. A number of the accounts that shared it were suspended soon after.
The quality, however, was a sticking point. The version in circulation was low resolution and heavily cropped, leaving much of the footage difficult to make out. A studio watermark remained visible in the frame, which left little doubt about its origin.
That timing is largely why fans were frustrated. Many had expected a clean, high-definition trailer within days and worried the leak could delay the official release by up to two weeks. Some directed their criticism at the leakers, citing the disruption to Sony’s plans and the pressure placed on the production team. It is also not the first such incident. The first Brand New Day trailer leaked as well, and was reportedly remade ahead of schedule, with visual effects artists working through weekends to meet the deadline. A few shots in that version showed the strain.
What the leaked Brand New Day trailer reveals
While the picture quality was poor, the audio offered plenty. The trailer reportedly opens with Peter Parker introducing himself and acknowledging his identity as Spider-Man, a reference to the memory-altering spell that closed Spider-Man: No Way Home. Set four years later, it finds Parker quietly protecting New York while his powers begin to evolve in unexpected and potentially dangerous ways.
The moment drawing the most attention is a confrontation. Leak breakdowns point to a fight between Holland’s Spider-Man and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, which quickly became the centerpiece of fan discussion. Bruce Banner is also said to appear, helping Peter understand his changing DNA, a detail that aligns with earlier set photos showing Banner on a stretcher.
The villain has generated equal interest. Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink is widely believed to be playing Jean Grey, shown wielding chaotic, Phoenix-like power. Reports suggest her character threatens MJ and triggers Hulk’s rampage, positioning her as the film’s central antagonist. If accurate, the casting would draw mutant storylines further into the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of its next major crossover.
A measure of caution is warranted. AI-generated fake leaks have grown more common, and several early audio clips were debated as possible fan creations before the fuller footage emerged. Sony’s swift takedown effort, however, lends weight to the leak’s authenticity.
When the official Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer drops
Despite the disruption, the rollout appears to be on track. According to FictionHorizon, Sony has kept the official second trailer scheduled for June 17, timed to coincide with tickets going on sale, with promotional materials already prepared. Some industry observers believe it could arrive sooner, given how widely the leak spread.
The campaign has been unconventional from the outset. Holland announced on Instagram that the trailer would be released in a distinctive format, shared through fan accounts worldwide in brief one to two second clips. Many fans expressed a preference for a single complete release rather than a gradual series of teasers. The leak, in an unintended way, gave them a fuller look, albeit blurry and out of sequence.
Brand New Day opens July 31, 2026, two weeks after Holland’s other major summer release. Part of Marvel’s Phase Six, the film picks up with a Peter Parker the world no longer remembers, now facing a threat well beyond his usual scope.
For the moment, anticipation remains high. A low-quality version is circulating, while the official trailer is still days away. Fans need only wait until June 17 for the version Sony intended them to see.
