According to Startup Pakistan, the project empowers over 230 million Urdu speakers worldwide who have historically lacked access to cutting-edge artificial intelligence in their native tongue.

Built by Pakistani Talent

The development of Qalb was led by Taimoor Hassan. He is a young Pakistani student currently pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University in the United States. Hassan previously completed his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from FAST University in Pakistan. His profile highlights a history of innovation. Hassan is a serial entrepreneur who has successfully launched and exited 13 startups. His achievements include winning the Microsoft Cup and representing Pakistan at various international forums.

Hassan did not work alone. He collaborated with his former undergraduate roommates and teammates Jawad Ahmed and Muhammad Awais. In a statement Hassan explained his motivation. “I had the opportunity to contribute in a small way to a much bigger mission for the country,” he said. He added that the team is committed to fine-tuning localized models for niche industries which they believe can become a major breakthrough for Pakistan.

What makes ‘Qalb’ special?

Qalb which means “Heart” in Arabic and Urdu stands out because of its massive training dataset. Geo News reported that the model was trained on 1.97 billion tokens. This extensive data foundation allows the system to process complex Urdu sentences with a high degree of accuracy. The development team benchmarked Qalb across more than seven international evaluation frameworks to assess real use performance.

The results of these tests place Qalb ahead of other existing Urdu-focused models on multiple benchmarks. It performs strongly on content generation reasoning and contextual understanding tasks. This sets a new standard for Urdu language processing within the country. Users can expect the model to handle everyday tasks with better fluency and consistency.

A Historic Milestone for Pakistan

The launch of Qalb represents more than just a software release. It reflects Pakistan’s growing ability to build advanced technology rather than only consume it. Over the past few months Pakistan has shown visible progress in the technology and innovation space. Several locally built platforms focused on artificial intelligence health technology and financial services have been launched by Pakistani startups between mid 2025 and late 2025. These projects were showcased at international tech events and regional startup forums.

In parallel the Pakistani government approved the National AI Policy in 2025 which includes targets for training one million AI professionals by 2030 and supporting homegrown technology products. Qalb directly fits into this policy direction by delivering a practical language tool designed for local use. This reduces dependency on foreign systems that are not built for Urdu speakers.

Why Qalb Makes a Difference

Language remains one of the biggest barriers to digital adoption in Pakistan. A large percentage of the population prefers Urdu for education public services and daily communication. Most modern digital tools are optimized primarily for English. Qalb changes this by making advanced language technology accessible in a widely understood local language.

This creates opportunities for better learning tools customer service platforms digital assistants and public information systems. Developers can now build applications on top of a strong Urdu language base which was not available at this scale before. It also allows small businesses and institutions to adopt digital tools without language constraints.

Why 2026 Matters

Globally 2026 is being viewed as a year when artificial intelligence moves deeper into daily use across sectors. Governments banks schools and hospitals are shifting from trial projects to live systems. Having a locally built Urdu language model before this wider rollout positions Pakistan better for the next phase of digital growth.

Qalb ensures that when new systems are introduced the local population is not left out due to language gaps. It also gives Pakistani developers the ability to build tools that can scale inside the country first before expanding internationally.

Impact on Youth and Future Talent

One of the strongest messages from Qalb is that world class technology can emerge from small focused teams. Hassan and his team built this project without being backed by a large corporation. This sends a clear signal to students and young developers across Pakistan.

Qalb combines advanced language technology with practical local use. It serves millions of Urdu speakers while marking an important step for Pakistan’s technology ecosystem. More importantly it shows what focused effort and local talent can achieve. As Pakistan moves toward a more digital future Qalb stands as an example of meaningful progress built at home.
