United States First Lady Melania Trump hosted first ladies and leaders from nearly 60 nations in New York on September 22, marking the latest expansion of her Fostering the Future Together initiative. The gathering was held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The initiative is a global coalition focused on empowering children through technology and education. According to the White House, it brings together governments and technology companies to develop tools for students, train parents and teachers, and expand access to new learning opportunities, while also protecting children from online dangers.
The event drew a wide international lineup. Attendees included first ladies and representatives from the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, and Canada, among other nations. The coalition, first launched during the previous UN General Assembly in 2025, has now grown to include nearly 60 member countries.
Melania Trump’s Fostering the Future Together Initiative Adds Tech Partnerships
The centerpiece of the event was a set of new partnerships with major technology companies. The initiative announced fresh support from Adobe, Amazon, Google, Intel, Starlink, and Zoom, with commitments spanning more than fifteen nations aimed at expanding educational and technological access for children and young people.
The initiative is built around four key areas: artificial intelligence in education, educational technology tools, online protection, and digital skills. The stated goal is to bring advanced technology, including AI, to children, educators, and parents, with participating companies making these tools available to member countries at little or no cost.
Several of the announced programs offer a sense of what that looks like in practice. One partner is rolling out free AI-powered study and creation tools grounded in classroom materials, available in multiple languages. Others are contributing connectivity, computing access, and educational platforms designed to reach students across member nations.
First Ladies Coalition Expands Children’s Education and Online Safety Efforts
The New York gathering also served as a launchpad for a series of upcoming international events. The first lady unveiled plans for regional conferences hosted by member nations in the months ahead, including an ASEAN conference in Manila hosted by the Philippines’ first lady, along with European and Caribbean regional meetings hosted by other first spouses.
In her remarks, Trump framed the coalition as a shared global effort. She said the group unites a range of cultures, languages, and traditions around a common goal of prioritizing children, and thanked participating leaders for stepping forward to activate their regions. She described the current period as an extraordinary moment in human history, tied to rapid advances in technology.
The initiative was first announced during the 80th UN General Assembly in 2025. Earlier this year, the coalition held a two-day Global Coalition Summit in Washington, bringing together first spouses and technology-sector leaders, before expanding its membership further at this year’s assembly.
Additional events are already planned for the months ahead, including a gathering tied to the G20 Summit in December. The continued expansion reflects the coalition’s stated aim of increasing children’s access to education technology while promoting online safety, an effort now spanning dozens of nations across several regions.
