Why Dubai Is Becoming a Global Destination for Creators and Influencers

The creator economy has transformed dramatically over the past decade. What started as individuals sharing content online has evolved into a multi-billion-dollar industry where influencers, content creators, podcasters, and digital entrepreneurs are building businesses and reaching audiences across the globe. As the industry continues to expand, creators are becoming more selective about where they live and work. Increasingly, Dubai is emerging as one of the top choices.

Unlike many cities that have simply benefited from the rise of social media, Dubai has actively invested in building an ecosystem that supports the creative economy. Through the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, the emirate aims to increase the contribution of creative industries to its GDP from 2.6% in 2020 to 5%, while also attracting more creative professionals and businesses. This reflects a long-term commitment to making creativity and innovation an important part of Dubai’s economic future rather than relying solely on traditional sectors.

That vision extends beyond the creative industries. The Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), launched in 2023, aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy over the next decade and position the city among the world’s top three urban economies. Technology, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and innovation are central to this strategy, creating an environment where creators and digital businesses can grow alongside global companies.

Another reason Dubai continues to attract creators is the ease of doing business. The city offers world-class infrastructure, reliable internet connectivity, efficient company registration processes, and direct access to international markets across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Its strategic location also makes it easier for creators to collaborate with brands, agencies, and audiences in multiple time zones, making Dubai a practical base for those working with global clients.

The city’s technology ecosystem further strengthens its appeal. Dubai Internet City, established in 1999, has grown into one of the Middle East’s largest technology hubs. According to an impact assessment conducted with Accenture, the district has contributed AED 100 billion to Dubai’s GDP over the past 15 years, supported more than 125,000 direct and indirect jobs, and is home to over 4,000 companies. For creators, this means being surrounded by agencies, production houses, startups, technology firms, and potential collaborators, all within a well-connected business community.

Dubai has also introduced initiatives specifically designed for the creator economy. In 2025, the UAE launched Creators HQ during the 1 Billion Followers Summit in Dubai. The initiative provides creators with access to networking opportunities, training programs, business support, and partnerships with global technology companies, including Meta, TikTok, X, Spotter, Creator Now, and Epidemic Sound. Rather than viewing creators as independent freelancers, Dubai is positioning them as an important part of its future digital economy.

Residency options have also become more attractive. Through the Creators HQ initiative, eligible content creators can apply for a 10-year Golden Visa, giving them greater stability to establish businesses, build long-term partnerships, and expand their operations from the UAE. For many creators, this removes one of the biggest uncertainties associated with working internationally.

Beyond policies and business incentives, Dubai’s multicultural environment adds to its appeal. The city is home to more than 200 nationalities, creating a diverse audience and an equally diverse creative community. It also hosts international conferences, fashion weeks, sporting events, technology exhibitions, and entertainment festivals throughout the year, providing creators with regular opportunities to attend global events, network with industry professionals, and collaborate with leading brands.

Dubai’s skyline, modern architecture, luxury hospitality, beaches, and cultural attractions have also made it one of the most visually recognisable cities in the world. While aesthetics alone are not enough to sustain a creator’s career, they undoubtedly provide a versatile backdrop for producing engaging content across platforms.

Ultimately, Dubai’s rise as a global destination for creators is not the result of social media trends alone. It is the outcome of deliberate investments in infrastructure, technology, business development, and the creative economy. By combining government support with a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem and international connectivity, the city has created an environment where creators can build sustainable careers while reaching audiences around the world. As the creator economy continues to grow, Dubai is well positioned to remain one of its leading global hubs.
