Emirates Elevates Karachi Service with Daily Premium Economy Launch

Emirates will introduce its Premium Economy cabin on scheduled daily flights to Karachi starting March 1, 2026. This move marks a significant upgrade for the Dubai-Karachi sector and positions the Pakistani commercial hub as one of the first cities in South Asia to receive the airline's latest cabin product on a consistent daily basis.

The service will operate on the daily EK606 and EK607 rotation using newly retrofitted Boeing 777-200LR aircraft. This specific deployment caters to the high-volume traffic between the two cities and offers a new middle-ground option for travelers who find the leap from Economy to Business Class too steep but desire more comfort than the standard economy experience.

Operational Details

The introduction of the three-class configuration—comprising Business, Premium Economy and Economy—adds a distinct tier to the route's capacity. While Emirates operates multiple daily frequencies to Jinnah International Airport, the Premium Economy product will initially remain exclusive to the EK606/EK607 pairing.

  • EK606: Departs Dubai (DXB) at 09:30 and arrives in Karachi (KHI) at 12:40.
  • EK607: Departs Karachi at 14:05 and arrives in Dubai at 15:15.

The timing of these flights aligns with major connecting banks at Dubai International Airport, facilitating seamless transfers for passengers traveling from Karachi to destinations in North America and Europe where Premium Economy is already established.

The Premium Economy Product

Emirates has invested heavily in distinguishing this cabin from a standard "economy plus" offering found on other carriers. The cabin is physically separate from Economy, providing a quieter environment and faster disembarkation.

Seat Specifications

The hard product on the retrofitted Boeing 777-200LR features cream-colored leather seats with wood panel finishing similar to the airline's Business Class aesthetic.

  • Space: Seats offer a pitch of up to 38 inches and a width of 19.5 inches.
  • Recline: An 8-inch recline allows for a more relaxed posture without intruding significantly on the passenger behind.
  • Support: Each seat includes six-way adjustable headrests, calf rests and footrests designed to support the body during rest.

Dining and Amenities

Service protocols in this cabin differ markedly from Economy. Passengers receive a welcome drink upon boarding. Meal service utilizes china tableware and stainless steel cutlery rather than disposable trays, accompanied by linen napkins. The menu features upgraded main course options and a selection of premium wines and liqueurs.

For entertainment, each seat houses a 13.3-inch HD screen connected to the ice inflight entertainment system. In-seat charging points and a side cocktail table provide functional utility for business travelers needing to work on the short haul.

Strategic Context and Global Rollout

The Karachi launch is part of a broader network expansion. By July 1, 2026, Emirates plans to offer Premium Economy on over 84 routes globally. The rollout coincides with the entry of new Airbus A350 aircraft into the fleet and the ongoing refurbishment of existing Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s.

Alongside Karachi, the airline is introducing the cabin to nine other cities including Barcelona, Rome, Taipei and Addis Ababa. The decision to prioritize Karachi reflects the route's robust load factors and the diverse mix of corporate and leisure traffic. For long-haul passengers originating in Pakistan, this launch unlocks the ability to book a consistent Premium Economy itinerary for the entire duration of their trip to cities like New York, London or Sydney.

A Historic Connection

The deployment carries symbolic weight for the airline. Karachi was Emirates' first-ever destination when operations launched in 1985. In October 2025, the carrier celebrated the 40th anniversary of this route with a special one-off flight that previewed the Premium Economy cabin to local stakeholders. Less than six months later, that preview has transitioned into a scheduled daily reality.

Mohammed Alhashmi, Emirates’ Vice President for Pakistan, previously highlighted the route's significance during the anniversary celebrations, noting that the airline has carried over 19 million passengers on the sector over four decades.

Market Impact

For Pakistani travelers, this introduction fills a gap in the market. While competitors offer varying degrees of legroom upgrades, few provide a distinct cabin class with dedicated service and catering on this sector. The product targets the price-sensitive yet comfort-conscious segment of the market, including small business owners, corporate middle management and families visiting relatives abroad.

Tickets for the new cabin are currently available for booking. As the March 1 inaugural flight approaches, industry observers will monitor uptake to gauge the local market's appetite for this intermediate luxury tier.
