The UAE government has launched a new lab where ministries and federal entities can design and test government services powered by AI assistants, with members of the public helping to shape them before launch.

Called the Laboratory for Applying AI Assistant in Government Services, it was announced on October 22 as part of the work of the UAE’s National Committee for Agentic Artificial Intelligence. It falls under the committee’s government services track, the fifth of its five tracks, WAM reported.

Agentic AI refers to systems that can do more than answer questions. They can analyze data, take actions and complete tasks on a user’s behalf, such as filling in forms or processing a request from start to finish.

The aim of the lab is to help government entities build services that are faster, more efficient and centered on the people who use them.

How the UAE Government AI Lab Will Work

The lab will help government entities identify which services and processes should be prioritized for AI. Entities will then test AI-supported solutions directly with service users and measure their actual experience.

Feedback from those tests will be used to fix problems early. Each service will be checked for readiness and quality before it is approved for launch and wider rollout, helping to set common quality standards across AI-supported government services.

The lab will also support ministries in redesigning services around AI systems that can carry out tasks on their own, with the goal of improving speed and efficiency and lowering costs. It will provide training for government employees and set governance frameworks for the responsible and safe use of AI assistants.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for Agentic Artificial Intelligence, said the lab “turns this partnership into proactive services that are more efficient and easier to use.”

“The national project aims to make the UAE government the best in the world in its services,” he said.

UAE’s Plan to Move Government Services to Agentic AI

The lab is part of a wider national plan announced by the UAE Cabinet in April 2026, which aims to shift half of federal government sectors, services and operations to agentic AI within two years. The rollout is taking place in phases across ministries and federal entities.

On October 9, the Ministerial Council for Artificial Intelligence and Development reviewed the first phase of the project, which focused on building government capabilities, surveying existing services and setting priorities. The next phase will set up a national technical platform known as FedAI for developing and running AI-powered services, along with further training for government employees.

The UAE government has already moved AI from testing into production, and the key words of the future are not AI agents but governance of AI agents, H.E. In August, the National Committee for Agentic Artificial Intelligence also released a unified guide for designing government services powered by agentic AI. The guide sets out principles such as not asking people for information they have already provided, keeping them informed throughout the process, protecting their privacy and data, and allowing them to object to or correct decisions.

Oversight remains a key part of the plan. Speaking in Dubai earlier this month, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, said audits of AI-run services will be carried out by both AI agents and humans. “The government’s only currency is trust,” he said.
