The 2026 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will take place as scheduled from December 3 to 6 at Yas Marina Circuit, with Ethara chief executive Saif Rashid Al Noaimi confirming that preparations for the event remain on track.
Speaking to Gulf News in Abu Dhabi on October 15, Al Noaimi reassured fans that the race would proceed as planned. “It’s happening. It’s been planned. Nothing has changed,” he said, addressing speculation surrounding the event.
The Grand Prix will serve as the final round of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, with the main race scheduled for December 6. The event will mark the 18th edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Ethara, the company responsible for organising the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, has continued preparations for the season finale despite uncertainty earlier in the year surrounding other races in the region.
The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix were cancelled amid regional tensions, raising questions about the wider Middle Eastern racing calendar. Formula 1 subsequently confirmed Abu Dhabi’s position as the season-ending event.
Al Noaimi said preparations had continued throughout the year without interruption. According to The National, he stated that the organisers had not stopped planning for the 2026 event for even a day.
The preparations involve teams from Ethara and Yas Marina Circuit, alongside Formula 1 and other partners responsible for delivering the race weekend.
Ethara’s chief portfolio and strategy officer, David Powell, previously explained that preparing, planning and building the event takes approximately 14 months.
Organisers have reported strong demand for this year’s Grand Prix. According to Al Noaimi, ticket sales at the 50-day mark were ahead of the corresponding period in 2025.
International ticket sales have also increased in recent weeks, according to the event organisers.
Ethara is expanding hospitality facilities to accommodate demand. The Paddock Club, which provides premium hospitality experiences for guests, is being expanded, with organisers aiming to increase its capacity beyond 12,000.
The hospitality offering will also include enhancements to the 16/360 experience, which was introduced during the previous year’s event. Additional branded dining and hospitality options are planned, including a partnership with Nammos at Deck at Nine.
These developments form part of the organisers’ broader plans to expand the event’s capacity and range of visitor experiences.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix combines Formula 1 racing with entertainment and activities across Yas Island.
Organisers have announced the return of the Kids Go Free offer for Friday, alongside a family pass designed for groups such as two adults and two children. Abu Dhabi Hill will also feature a dedicated family-focused area.
The event’s entertainment programme includes concerts and other activities outside the main racing sessions. Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli is among the artists scheduled to perform during the 2026 event, alongside other international performers.
The combination of motorsport, hospitality and live entertainment remains a central part of the Grand Prix’s programme.
Ethara is also exploring transport options to improve access to the event. According to recent reports, the organiser is working with Etihad Rail on a potential rail-linked shuttle service for visitors travelling from Dubai and Fujairah.
The proposal is intended to provide another travel option for spectators attending the Grand Prix. Further details about the arrangement have not been confirmed in the available reports.
Al Noaimi has identified the visitor experience as a key measure of the event’s success, highlighting factors such as arrival arrangements, value for money, entertainment and the quality of service provided to spectators.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will conclude a 24-round Formula 1 season that began in Australia in March. The championship calendar includes races across five continents before the final rounds in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
The race weekend at Yas Marina Circuit is scheduled to run from December 3 to 6, with December 6 reserved for the Grand Prix itself.
With preparations continuing and organisers reporting strong ticket demand, Ethara has reiterated that the event remains on schedule.
Al Noaimi’s confirmation provides a clear update for fans planning to attend the season finale, which will bring the 2026 Formula 1 championship to a close in the UAE capital.
