Hailee Steinfeld leads Walt Disney Animation Studios’ latest original film about a teenager who discovers she has magic.
Disney has released a new trailer for Hexed, the next original film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, giving audiences a fresh look at its world of witches, talking objects and family secrets.
The film follows Billie Doe, a restless and unconventional teenager who has never quite fit in. After she is expelled from school, Billie discovers she has magical abilities. Those powers pull her out of her quiet suburban life and into Hexe, a hidden world of witches.
Hexed opens in theaters on November 25, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the United States. It is the studio’s 65th animated feature.
Hexed Voice Cast and Characters
Hailee Steinfeld voices Billie, while Rashida Jones plays her cautious mother, Alice. The story places their relationship at its center, as mother and daughter work together to uncover secrets about their family and its ties to Hexe.
Jodie Foster joins the cast as Queen Celeste, the queen of the witches and the film’s villain. Walton Goggins voices Beef Roger Crumbchuck, a three-eyed green cat.
Two enchanted objects also join Billie on her journey. Tracey Ullman voices Ms. Quill, a feather quill pen, and Stephen Fry plays Elias Quire, a magical journal.
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn described Billie as “someone who has felt miscast in her own life.” Co-director Jason Hand said Hexe is the place where Billie “begins to feel seen for the first time in her life.”
The Team Behind Disney’s Hexed
Veerasunthorn and Hand direct the film, with Josie Trinidad as co-director. Veerasunthorn previously co-directed Disney’s Wish in 2023.
The film is produced by Roy Conli, whose earlier work includes Tangled and the Oscar-winning Big Hero 6, and Yvett Merino, who produced the Oscar-winning Encanto. Jared Bush, Dana Ledoux Miller and Jon Robin Baitz wrote the screenplay.
Hexed was first announced at Disney’s D23 event in August 2025 with a different premise, centered on a teenage boy and his mother. The studio later reworked the story around Billie and Alice and revealed the updated version at CinemaCon in April this year.
In theaters, the film will be preceded by Lilo & Scratch, a new short featuring characters from Lilo & Stitch.
