Pakistan has dispatched 100 tonnes of relief supplies to Nepal following the floods and landslides that struck the country.
Pakistan has sent 100 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal to support communities affected by recent floods and landslides. The relief consignment was flown from Islamabad to Kathmandu, and officials said it was dispatched on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The shipment included tents, blankets, mats, hygiene kits and medicines for affected communities. The National Disaster Management Authority coordinated the assistance, which was sent by a chartered flight from Islamabad International Airport in a single consignment.
A send-off event was held at the airport before the aircraft departed. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry attended the ceremony as chief guest. Nepal’s ambassador to Pakistan was also present, along with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Authority.
Pakistan Humanitarian Aid to Nepal Dispatched From Islamabad
Officials described the consignment as a gesture of solidarity with the government and people of Nepal during a difficult period. The relief items were selected to meet immediate needs in areas where homes and services have been disrupted, including shelter, warmth and basic medical supplies.
The delivery was arranged through coordination between the two governments, with the National Disaster Management Authority handling the assembly and dispatch of the supplies on the Pakistani side. The chartered flight carried the full 100-tonne load to Kathmandu for onward distribution by the relevant authorities in Nepal.
Pakistan and Nepal maintain diplomatic ties, and the aid dispatch was carried out through official channels between the two states. The delivery followed the appeals and assessments that emerged in the days after the flooding, as the scale of the damage and the number of people affected became clearer.
Nepal Floods and Landslides Prompt International Response
The aid follows flooding and landslides that caused heavy loss of life and widespread damage in Nepal. The disaster was triggered in late August, and the death toll rose over the following days as rescue operations continued.
According to the United Nations, the confirmed death toll reached 903, with more than 4,200 people still missing. More than 10,000 people were rescued, including foreign nationals. The world body reported that around 65,000 people required emergency water, sanitation and hygiene services, and that tens of thousands of children needed protection and support in the aftermath.
The flooding affected areas along Nepal’s northern border, and sections of the highway linking Kathmandu to some of the hardest-hit districts were blocked. Schools were among the buildings damaged or destroyed, and some surviving school buildings were used to shelter displaced families. Relief agencies reported needs ranging from clean water and nutrition to psychosocial support for affected children.
Islamabad Kathmandu Relief Flight Marks Latest Assistance
The scale of the disaster drew responses from a number of countries and international organizations. Pakistan’s dispatch of relief supplies added to that wider effort, with the consignment aimed at communities dealing with displacement and shortages of essential items.
Officials said the National Disaster Management Authority remained engaged on the matter, and the assistance was framed as part of Pakistan’s practice of sending help to countries hit by natural disasters. The relief flight represents Pakistan’s contribution to the ongoing response in Nepal.
The consignment reached Kathmandu for distribution to affected areas by authorities in Nepal, with the supplies directed toward the communities identified as most in need of shelter, hygiene items and medicines.
