President Sheikh Mohamed commended the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces for their vital role in defending the nation against recent Iranian attacks. He delivered his remarks to mark the 50th anniversary of the unification of the military. He described the milestone as a moment of immense national pride. He stated the Armed Forces successfully confront ongoing terrorist attacks and protect the stability of the country.
The UAE leader honored the fallen personnel who died in the line of duty while protecting the Emirates and its people. He emphasized that the decision to unify the military on May 6, 1976, demonstrates the foresight of the late Sheikh Zayed and his fellow Rulers. Sheikh Mohamed noted that the courage and dedication of the military personnel will forever remain in the history of the nation. He affirmed that the UAE draws its strength from the unity of its people.
The President expressed his appreciation to the men and women serving in the military through a public statement on the X platform. He congratulated them on the anniversary of this defining moment. He highlighted their dedication to safeguarding the security and stability of the nation.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also paid tribute to the soldiers and leaders. He called the Armed Forces the shield, sword, and fortress of the homeland. He expressed absolute pride in the forces, the President, and the Emirates.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, celebrated the history of courage demonstrated by the military. He stated the Armed Forces remain the support of the homeland and guide the nation toward a future of greater strength.
The 50th anniversary arrives as the UAE faces daily bombardments of missiles and drone strikes following the outbreak of regional hostilities on February 28. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of two UAE Armed Forces personnel, a civilian contractor, and 10 civilians. These strikes also injured more than 220 people. A conditional ceasefire took effect on April 8, bringing a temporary halt to hostilities. Iran then renewed its attacks on the Emirates on Monday. Iran fired 15 missiles and four drones in a major escalation.

Sheikh Mohamed confirmed that national investments in defense systems proved critical in thwarting these sustained airstrikes. Edge defense systems successfully intercepted more than 85 percent of the incoming drone strikes. He declared that reinforcing defense capabilities remains a central strategic priority for the comprehensive development vision of the country. The UAE responded with decisiveness and strength to all threats posed to its sovereignty.
The President stated the UAE remains able to deter any aggression through the strength of its Armed Forces and the cohesion of its society. He prayed for the fallen heroes and asked God to bless the UAE with continued security and safety.
